FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR 40 OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN.
To start with, SASO is located at south west part of Accra in a fishing community with population of about 3000 inhabitants. The major activities of the inhabitants are fishing and petty trading with it corresponding low income generation. The community's average family budget for a day is 5.00. In solving the problem of poverty the inhabitants children are deprived of formal education and made to involve in activities ranging from early marriages(girls) and boys made to join their elders at sea(fishing).
A study (social investigations) conducted by 2016/2017 final year students of the Social work department of the university of Ghana in the project areas of SASO found that almost "465 children" (7-16) spend most of their time at the local fishing harbour in the community. And a small fraction of this number is registered with a school in the community or elsewhere.
It is the goal of SASO to see this children have access to formal education in our literacy program and in the mainstream education. SASO wishes to assist forty (40) out of these children back in the classroom and through the help of Social workers, for the period of transition from trade to school.
This wish of ours came into reality by support from Stichting Eerlijk Delen who provided for the 40 children free uniforms, stationary and health care/insurance. We are very grateful to Fair Share Foundation for their support.
